Parking bans: Lincoln Transportation and Utilities declared a Snow Emergency for the City of Lincoln, effective at 1 p.m. Monday, January 8. Two parking bans began at 1 p.m. Monday.
- A residential parking ban means that parking is banned only on the even numbered side of residential streets during 2024. This will assist snowplow crews in clearing neighborhood streets faster and more efficiently. A residential parking ban applies to streets that are not emergency snow routes, arterials or bus routes or included in a snow removal district.
- A snow emergency parking ban means parking is banned on both sides of emergency snow routes, arterial streets, school and bus routes. Maps of these routes are available at lincoln.ne.gov/snow under the “Parking Bans & Ordinances” tab. Please plan for alternate parking to allow crews room to clear the way safely and efficiently.
City Operations: Crews continue to treat and plow emergency, school and bus routes. Residential plowing began at 5 p.m. Monday.
National Weather Service: A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until noon Tuesday, January 9. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches and 45 mph wind gusts are possible.
Weather conditions: Blowing snow
Street conditions: Streets are snow covered and snow packed with drifting in exposed areas. Snowfall has been consistent for the past nine hours and winds picked up after midnight. Snow is expected to last through the morning along with 35 to 40 mph wind gusts through 5 p.m. Drivers should expect reduced visibility from blowing snow and winter driving conditions. Drivers should allow for extra travel time during the morning commute.
StarTran: Bus service is expected to run as normal with the possibility of five to 10 minute delays due to weather conditions. Download the RideLNK app to track StarTran buses in real time for minute-to-minute bus updates.
