Parking Bans: The City of Lincoln declared a Snow Emergency that began at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 11. A snow emergency parking ban is in effect. A residential parking ban will begin at 6 a.m. today.
- A snow emergency parking ban means parking is banned on both sides of emergency snow routes, arterial streets, school and bus routes. Maps of these routes are available at lincoln.ne.gov/snow under the “Parking Bans & Ordinances” tab. Please plan for alternate parking to allow crews room to clear the way safely and efficiently.
- A residential parking ban means that parking is banned only on the even numbered side of residential streets during 2024. This will assist snowplow crews in clearing neighborhood streets faster and more efficiently. A residential parking ban applies to streets that are not emergency snow routes, arterials or bus routes or included in a snow removal district.
City Operations: Winter operations crews will remain focused on plowing emergency snow routes and arterial streets. Residential plowing operations will begin at 8 a.m. today to minimize frozen snowpack by plowing off accumulations in response to the bitter cold temperatures. Snowfall is expected to begin tapering off around 11 a.m.; blowing snow will persist through the weekend.
National Weather Service: A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, January 12. Heavy snow is expected, with additional snow accumulations between two and four inches and winds gusting as high as 40 mph are possible.
A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until noon Friday, January 12. Very cold wind chills down to 20 below zero are possible.
Weather conditions: Snow, blowing snow.
Street conditions: Streets are snow covered and will become snow packed with traffic. If you must venture out, dress appropriately and allow for extra travel time and stopping distance.
StarTran: Bus service is expected to run as normal with the possibility of five to 10 minute delays due to weather conditions. Download the RideLNK app to track StarTran buses in real time for minute-to-minute bus updates.
Riders are encouraged to plan for delays and dress appropriately for winter conditions. Lincoln residents who live on bus routes are urged to clear sidewalks promptly for easy and safe access to and from bus stops. This effort will also help prevent bus delays.
