The Mayor issued a residential parking ban that went into effect at 3 p.m. today.  This means parking is banned on the even numbered sides of residential streets.  That is generally the north and east sides of the street.  The snow emergency parking ban on both sides of all emergency snow routes, bus and school routes and other major arterial streets is still active.  For a map of these routes, visit snow.lincoln.ne.gov. Both bans remain in effect until lifted by the Mayor.

Vehicles parked illegally during Snow Emergency and Residential Parking bans are subject to fines, towing and storage costs at the owners’ expense.  Vehicles parked in a way that does not allow emergency vehicles to pass may be ticketed for obstructing a public street.  For information on towed vehicles, call the Emergency Communications Center, 402-441-7204.

More than sixty City and contractor crews continue to plow and apply deicing materials to emergency snow routes, arterial streets, bus and school routes.  Full-scale residential plowing has begun and is expected to take approximately 24 hours before switching to the odd numbered sides of residential streets.

Arterial streets range from slushy to snow and ice packed with very slick conditions.  Residential streets are snow packed with difficult driving.  Sustained winds have created drifting problems throughout the city.  Operators report 3-foot drifts in neighborhoods. Winter driving conditions should be observed citywide.

This has been a significant winter event with an average snowfall of nearly 7 inches across Lincoln.  Our dedicated crews are working around the clock to clear the way for safer travel, so please be sure to give them plenty of room to do their job.

Property owners are to clear snow and ice from sidewalks by 9 a.m. the day following the end of the snow storm.  When clearing sidewalks, residents should also clear crosswalks, curb cuts and access from the street to, and around, all fire hydrants.  Those who need help clearing their snow, can call 402-441-7644, to request volunteer assistance through Transportation and Utilities Snow Angels Program, or visit lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: snow angels).  You may also sign up as a volunteer at this website.

The City reminds residents that it is illegal to push or blow snow into or on any street, alley or sidewalk, and violators are subject to a fine.
