Twenty crews began applying liquid deicer and granular salt pre-wet with brine to arterial streets, bus and school routes at 12 a.m., and remain on patrol.  Plowing operations are at the ready.  The Mayor has declared a snow emergency for the City of Lincoln.  Beginning at 10 a.m., parking is banned on both sides of all emergency snow routes, bus and school routes and other major arterial streets.  For a map of these routes, visit snow.lincoln.ne.gov

Streets are wet with normal driving conditions.  StarTran buses are running and are currently operating on time.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until noon today and a Blizzard Warning from noon until 3 a.m. Sunday.  Mixed precipitation through this morning, then blizzard conditions expected this afternoon into tonight.  Snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, a light glaze of ice and winds gusts of 35 to 50 mph are possible.

Drivers should be alert for slick spots and areas of black ice, especially on untreated streets and sidewalks, slow down and increase following and stopping distance.  If you must travel today, drivers should use caution and be prepared for whiteout conditions making visibility and travel extremely dangerous.  Be sure to give City crews plenty of room to do their job.
