Street Condition Update for Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 8:50 a.m.

With new snow accumulations beginning shortly after 5 a.m., Wednesday, Public Works ordered five material spreaders to reapply deicers at key intersections and bridges.  At 8 a.m., Public Works ordered a full material spreading operation on all emergency snow routes, arterials, school and bus routes.  Twenty crews were deployed to apply granular salt, pre-wet with anti-ice brine.  Some roads have a thin layer of snow on top of wet pavement.  Recently treated areas are in good condition with running water.   Driving conditions are favorable for the morning commute, but drivers should exercise caution.

Lincoln Police Department (LPD) reports 18 accidents since midnight Tuesday, with at least 15 additional calls occurring during the morning commute.  LPD urges drivers to exercise caution and advises those involved in minor accidents to move vehicles from the road if it is safe to do so.  StarTran reports buses running five to 15 minutes late.
