Snow Removal/Parking Ban Update for Tuesday, January 26, 2021, 5 p.m.

Parking bans: A snow emergency is in effect. Residential parking remains banned on the odd-numbered sides of the street – that’s generally the south and west sides of the street. Parking is permitted on the even sides of residential streets.

When a residential parking ban is required, parking is banned on only one side of the street. The sides of the street will not switch like in previous years. During residential bans, parking on odd-numbered sides of the street will be banned in odd-numbered years like 2021.  Parking on even-numbered sides of the street will be banned in even-numbered years.

To assist downtown residents during parking bans, free overnight parking is offered at Center Park Garage, 1100 “N” St. and Green 2 Garage, 530 “P” St. (beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday) until the ban is lifted or until noon, Sunday, January 31. Customers will be charged the posted rate for any time beyond those hours. Vehicles that remain in the garage past noon will be charged for the entire time the vehicle was in the facility.

City operations:  112 City and contractor crews are plowing arterial streets, school and bus routes and residential streets. Crews should complete arterial plowing and move into residential areas by 9 p.m.  Material spreaders will continue deicing arterial streets, school and bus routes overnight. Residential plowing continues with completion expected Wednesday night.

National Weather Service: Light snow possible tonight with up to two inches of accumulation.

Weather conditions: Overcast

Street conditions: Arterial streets are snow and ice-packed with some slush. Unplowed residential areas are snow-covered and hazardous. Lincoln Transportation and Utilities appreciates the public’s patience during this weather event.  Residents are reminded that crews are only eight hours, post-snowfall, into a 24 to 36 hour operation to clear historic snow accumulations using more resources than have ever been deployed.

StarTran: Due to buses being temporarily stuck in snow or slowed by other stranded vehicles, some lengthy delays should be expected.
