The Mayor has declared a snow emergency for the City of Lincoln. Beginning at 8 p.m., parking is banned on both sides of all emergency snow routes, bus and school routes and other major arterial streets to deliver the most efficient snow plowing operation. For a map of these routes, visit snow.lincoln.ne.gov.
The National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday. Snow accumulation of up to 8 inches is possible.
About 20 crews are now patrolling City streets spreading granular salt pre-wet with brine as needed. Plowing operations are expected to begin about 9 p.m.
Drivers are advised to be alert for slick spots and black ice. Heavy snowfall overnight is expected to limit visibility. Drivers should slow down and allow extra travel time and stopping distance. Be sure to give City crews plenty of room to do their jobs.
Requests for additional attention on specific streets or intersections may be easily submitted through UPLNK, the City’s phone app to report non-emergency issues. Download the free app at lincoln.ne.gov or in the iOS or Android stores. The requests will be handled based on priority and availability of resources.
