Snow Removal/Parking Ban Update for Sunday, February 17, 2019, 11 a.m

The Mayor has declared a snow emergency for the City of Lincoln as of 10 a.m. today.  That means parking is banned on both sides of all emergency snow routes, school and bus routes and other major arterial streets to deliver the most efficient snow plowing operation.

More than 60 crews are plowing these major streets and treating with granular salt pre-wet with brine to help reduce slippery conditions.  Crews also started plowing residential streets at 10 a.m.  Residential parking bans are not in effect at this time, but the City does ask residents to remove their cars off the streets, both in neighborhoods and in the downtown area, to help crews do a more efficient and effective job.

Drivers should be on alert for slick spots and black ice, especially on untreated streets and sidewalks. Slow down, and allow yourself extra travel time and stopping distance.  Please drive with caution around City crews and allow them plenty of room to work.

Again, a snow emergency parking ban on major streets is in effect for the City, but residential parking bans are not in effect at this time.

Property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks and driveway entrances and should also clear around fire hydrants. The City reminds residents that it is illegal to push or blow snow into or on any street, alley or sidewalk, and violators are subject to a fine. Plowing snow into the gutter and keeping streets clear of ice and snow ensures the safest travel conditions.
