Street Condition Update for Saturday, February 24, 2018, 8:40 a.m.

Thirty City and contractor crews are treating emergency snow routes, arterial, school and bus routes applying granular salt pre-wet with brine as an anti-icing treatment and liquid brine as a de-icing treatment. Treated areas are responding very well turning to water and slush, but icy conditions are slowing crews progress. Over the next couple of hours crews will continue to treat roads with ice fighting measures.

City crews report that streets are ice covered and extremely slick due to freezing rain. Traffic is moving slow. Some areas are requiring re-treatment due to continued freezing rain. Non-essential travel is not advised at this time.  Be alert for slick spots on bridges, overpasses, and streets. Another update will be given after  10 a.m.

The Lincoln Police Department reports numerous non-life threatening accidents have taken place.  StarTran routes are running late.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. tonight.
