Snow Removal Update for Thursday, February 22, 2018, 7 a.m.

Light snow began to fall in south Lincoln at midnight. Twenty City crews began patrolling emergency snow routes, arterial streets, bus routes, and school routes treating troubled areas.   Heavier bands of snow began moving north around 4 a.m. Twenty City crews began plowing at 5 a.m. emergency snow routes, arterial streets, bus routes, and school routes as accumulations surpassed 1”, treating roads with granular salt pre-wet with liquid brine. By 8 a.m. plowing will grow to sixty City and contractor crews for emergency snow routes, arterial streets, bus routes, and school routes. 1-2” are expected before noon at which time freezing rain and snow is expected through the rest of the day and evening The goal is to have nearly all snow cleared off before emergency ice fighting measures.

Crews report that streets are snow covered and snow packed with areas of wet slush. Travel speeds have been reduced.

Drivers are urged to use caution no matter where you are driving in Lincoln.  Be alert for snow-packed streets and wet sidewalks creating slick areas.
