Street Condition Update for Saturday, December 17, 2016, 4:45 p.m.

After spending all day Saturday performing a full material spreading operation on emergency snow routes, arterials and bus routes, City crews will start applying sand beginning at 6 p.m. this evening. Twenty material spreaders remain deployed and crews will work into Saturday evening and potentially overnight into Sunday morning.

Arterial streets are wet with slush and some ice, but temperatures are expected to fall to -10 this evening, which will refreeze any liquids left on the roads. Residential streets remain icy. Drivers are urged to use caution as roads may become more slick. StarTran routes are five to 15 minutes behind schedule. Lincoln Police Department reports 17 accidents since noon Saturday.

Public Works reminds the public that all City deicing resources are currently deployed improving road conditions. Until further notice, our primary focus is on emergency snow routes, other arterial streets and bus routes only. Any residential work is currently limited to bus routes. We appreciate your patience during these hazardous weather conditions. Please exercise the utmost caution if you must drive.
