Street Condition Update for Saturday, December 17, 2016, 11:55 a.m.

After working all night Friday, and with new snow accumulation making road conditions worse, City crews will continue working all day Saturday into the evening applying granular salt, pre-wet with brine on all emergency snow routes, arterial and bus routes. Twenty material spreaders remain deployed and plow crews are on standby should conditions warrant.

Driving conditions on arterials remain icy. Lincoln Police Department reports 95 accidents occurring between noon and midnight Friday, and 20 accidents since midnight. Conditions on residential streets and other untreated areas are icy and hazardous, with the potential for refreezing on all streets to occur as temperatures drop this evening. Pedestrians are urged to use caution in parking lots, sidewalks and edges of roadways.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. Snow accumulation could range from one to three inches. Windy conditions could reduce visibility to one-half mile or less.
