Public Works will continue a full material spreading operation of granular salt, pre-wet with brine on all emergency snow routes, arterial and bus routes throughout Friday night and Saturday. There are 20 units on the roads. Driving conditions on arterials remain icy, with Lincoln Police Department reporting 86 accidents occurring since noon Friday. Conditions on residential streets and other untreated areas are hazardous. Pedestrians are urged to use caution in parking lots, sidewalks and edges of roadways.
The National Weather Service is predicting freezing rain and drizzle to continue through the evening, with the possibility of snow overnight into Saturday. Snow accumulation could range from one to three inches. Wind chill temperatures below zero will likely cause ice to form on untreated roadways and sidewalks.
